We constantly make the observation that there is no dependency between delivering business applications as components and component technologies, such as COM, Enterprise JavaBeans or CORBA. Clearly, there are IT organisations that are providing their users more adaptive business systems using the component approach but are still using ‘traditional’ technologies, such as OLTP (eg. IBM CICS) to implement them. Whilst some organisations may be happy to continue with traditional technologies, it is now evident that there are also many who are looking to implement systems using these new component technologies, and who want to know what tool support they can expect.
