Components promise a breakthrough in the application delivery process. But that breakthrough will only be realised on an enterprise scale when there is comprehensive support for management functions. Small scale application delivery activity can generally be accomplished without significant infrastructure, but enterprise applications usually imply heterogeneous environments with volume, complexity, security, quality and performance requirements that demand a strongly managed environment.
