CBDi Forum Journal - April 1998 What is a Component? (Part 2) In the March Journal, we introduced some background to the work of the Reference Model SIG. Initially, CBDi Forum was looking to establish nomenclature and definitions surrounding components. However, we have realised that the very act of setting definitions and a formal nomenclature would be potentially constricting in a market where we envisage huge growth and evolution over the next few years. We also continue to see the word component being used in more and more contexts and, as a consequence, we need better ways of communicating the diversity of types and states of components.
