| Abstract: |
SAP is at long last delivering on its Enterprise Services Architecture strategy and it is now entering mainstream adoption. It’s an ideal time to provide a thorough briefing on the SAP architecture and contrast the many positive elements of the SAP approach with some key issues that need to be carefully managed. This report will be of interest to everyone – SAP customers will find the assessment insightful; others will learn valuable lessons from this industry leading experience. |
| Backgrounder: |
Although SAP has been talking about Enterprise SOA for years by now, one of the main challenges for SAP always was the realization of a true Process Integration Layer.
It looks like SAP is currently accelerating its move into Enterprise SOA. In April 2007 a new version of the Process Integration part of NetWeaver (PI 7.1) was announced for general release in September 2007. This will be the release that was earlier doing the rounds before as “Project New York” and was rumoured to bring SAP a true Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). With PI 7.1 SAP is taking a major step in delivering on their E-SOA vision, because it brings the tooling that implementing the Enterprise SOA vision requires. |
