SOA Life Cycle and Governance
We have commented on a number of occasions that the SOA is directly comparable to a city plan. I often develop this metaphor in my workshops because it really does help to explain the loose/tight control model, as well as provide an excellent basis for considering classes of policies and compliance measures.

Now don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying all city planners are perfect, far from it. Just this week someone reminded me that the typical city actually has an even closer relationship to the average enterprise IT environment because most cities have a huge legacy problem, and the success of planners efforts are often quite hard to see! Rather it’s the planning framework that makes the useful comparison, and indeed the obvious failings of some city planers also provides food for thought. Who hasn’t sat in the traffic jam caused by road works and pondered on why the various service providers never seem to be able to coordinate their maintenance programs!
This editorial considered what are some of the policy and process components of the framework? |
