Title: Modeling for SOA - The IBM Story
Author: Richard Veryard
Publication Date: 13 May 2003
Report Type: Journal
Report Class: Vendor Insight
Abstract: With the recent acquisitions of Holosofx and Rational, IBM is now able to present a broad set of modeling tools for SOA. In this review, we explore IBM's coverage.
Backgrounder: As we discussed in January, the move towards On Demand Services, signaled by IBM and others, creates a new set of challenges for system development and management. In recent articles, we have been exploring some of the implications of service-based development. CBDI has argued that design, acquisition and management of services call for a new approach to modeling - indeed, a new approach to development. CBDI has always been a strong advocate of model-driven development, and has welcomed the growing power and utilization of modeling tools, as well as the maturing of MDA. Thanks to IBM's recent acquisition of Rational - coming on top of its earlier acquisition of Holosofx and Rational's acquisition of NeuVis - IBM can now present an attractive story on model-driven development.
