| Abstract: | Editorial: Two different concepts, or two sides of the same coin? Of course the marketing departments are in no doubt; components are yesterdays issue, web services are top of the toy box. Of course components don't go away, but much of the hard won experience that we have gained with components is becoming an essential part of the service-based environment. This is more than an academic debate because it is all too easy to forget the essential (component based) foundations and fall into the trap that any message that uses some or all of the protocols is going to deliver you all of the benefits. To be blunt, there are too many practitioners past and present who paid lip service to the component concept, and we should anticipate that the same syndrome will occur with services. | ||
