| Abstract: | Every fall (autumn) Microsoft holds its Professional Developers Conference (PDC). The objective of this event is to provide detailed information to its early adopting developers, particularly ISV's on the strategy for the coming year. The ISV's are important because they are the organizations that create the essential content to stimulate platform sales when it becomes generally available. This year's PDC was particularly important for Microsoft and its partners and customers as it provided the first really comprehensive and in-depth information on the .NET framework that rolls out during 2002. We attended the PDC which was held in the last week of October and in this report we assess what the blitz of product details tell us about the Microsoft strategy. And whilst it is perhaps popular to knock Microsoft, it is hard to escape the conclusion that they are moving faster than the rest of the industry, and delivering some extraordinary capability. | ||
