Title: Code Reuse Revisited
Author: David Sprott
Publication Date: 15 August 2001
Report Type:
Abstract: Reuse strategies, frameworks and tools generally focus on many different types of artifact including components, models, design patterns, frameworks and test cases; but typically not code. Yet there are vast numbers of projects that will never universally adopt structured class based reuse for many reasons. Whilst open source communities reuse code, the classification and reuse is relatively unstructured. Of course code reuse has always been normal practice for developers, but almost always for personal reuse. But supposing we were able to provide some structure around the reuse of code such that it could be managed? We take a look at some interesting work at DevelopMentor and reflect on the popularity of different project strategies.
