| Abstract: | With the Sun announcement last week, all the major platform vendors have now nailed their colors to the web services mast. It's not hard to see why. Everyone agrees that the Internet is going to rapidly become a service-based world and this will be a major growth market, fuelled by an explosion in mobile, consumer devices. So are the various web services strategies identical? Is this an area where there is no differentiation between the platforms? Will Sun and or Microsoft extend the standards to introduce a proprietary layer to achieve some measure of lock-in? Will web services concepts morph such that there will be differentiation in capabilities? Whilst there are no final definitive answers to these questions just yet, we can already see how this game is shaping up. | ||
