| Title: | Predictions for 2001 and beyond | ||

| Abstract: | As is customary at this time of the year, we make some predictions for the coming year and beyond. We also assess the predictions we made last year. We see no reason to change them, thoughsome are being realized more slowly than we predicted. This year, we also invited some forum members to share their views. Thanks to all who responded. In making predictions it is often all too easy to get caught up by the vendor hype. We are all acutely aware of the software marketing model which continuously delivers new functionality on a year on year basis, that simply adds to the morass of legacy technology already in use in the typical end user or ISV organization. The question for everyone is to sort out the wheat from the chaff, and to assess which trends are important and which will be passing fads. | ||
