| Abstract: | At the recent Buying and Selling Components SIG Meeting at Niagara Falls, Rational presented the Reusable Asset Specification. This proposes a standard for describing software assets that would clearly improve our ability to reuse them. We believe this is a significant initiative that is a prerequisite to delivering the productivity and quality benefits claimed for reuse. In this report we provide some context for this initiative and also remind ourselves that reuse is not the only goal. We reflect on why reuse has been notoriously difficult to achieve over the years and report on some of the discussions at the Niagara SIG. | ||
