| Abstract: |
A radical methodology that goes beyond familiar modeling approaches to support business improvement.
In the December 2008 Journal we discussed the need for innovative methodology approaches to support business improvement activity. We introduced a number of candidates for redesigning and reengineering organizations including the DEMO methodology. DEMO focuses on the ‘deep structure’ of the enterprise, the things that will remain constant as long as the underlying business model is unchanged, a key issue in service architecture and design. This article looks at DEMO in more depth and demonstrates its potential value by showing how it can work with SAE using the CBDI Springfield case study. |
| Backgrounder: |
In the December 2008 Journal we introduced the DEMO methodology for redesigning and reengineering organizations, as part of a discussion of business improvement and modeling methods. In that article we concluded that the use of multiple, orthogonal perspectives may be highly appropriate in the area of Business Improvement, which by definition should encourage innovative thinking and not be constrained. DEMO is a strong contender in this area.
DEMO has a significant track record in the Netherlands, and has been used by blue-chip and public sector organizations since the early 1990s. But it is little known outside its home market,.
This article examines it in more depth, shows how it may be used to model the enterprise, and demonstrates its potential value to an SOA led process by illustrating how DEMO and SAE can work together at the project level. |
