| Abstract: |
While the importance of management practices for SOA related projects and programs is widely acknowledged, there is a dearth of practical advice. If SOA is immature then SOA project management is scarcely embryonic. The reasons for this are complex and varied, but one of the most important is that current management practices, deeply ingrained in the IT psyche, do not easily square with service orientation. In this article we make a start at addressing the challenge of evolving current management practices by examining the underlying factors, reporting on some CBDI Forum member experiences and providing some practical pointers. |

A recurring theme that emerges from our members is that many of the touted benefits of SOA — agility, quicker deployments, less cost for development — do not arrive quickly. Increasingly we find this is as much about cultural change as anything else and in particular about the management aspects of SOA. |
