Ross Systems Introduces Component-Based Architecture in Renaissance CS 4.2 Release

May 11, 1998 - Ross Systems, a leading provider of enterprise resource planning and supply chain management products, today announced a new component-based architecture will be delivered as part of its Renaissance CS 4.2 release.

Renaissance CS is an advanced formula and specification based ERP/SCM system for processing manufacturing companies such as chemicals, metals, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, pulp and paper, building products and plastics. The company has close to 700 installations of its ERP product in 24 countries representing 16 languages.

Renaissance CS uses an advanced component-based architecture that encapsulates logical units of code called business processes. The company has de-composed its applications into distinct application logic components. These logic components are linked to other components that form business logic flows.

In non-component-based architectures, core changes to the functionality of a product generally mean considerable re-linking of modules impacted by the change. Component-based systems make this job much easier and faster.

Renaissance CS Architecture

The Renaissance CS architecture comprises three layers: Business processes, Enterprise Modelling and Intelligent Desktop.

  • Business Processes - these represent the core components of the ERP system including key tasks, activities, workflows or business functions. Together, these processes form the core logic or integrated functionality of the system.
  • Enterprise Modelling - provides business practice templates and tools for creating, implementing, operating and evolving your business management software to meet an organisation’s unique needs.
  • Intelligent Desktop - this is the unique "home page" window that delivers information and computing power to each user. The intelligent desktop provides instant access to all the information the user needs to get answers, share knowledge, make decisions, track results and perform work. From a customised window, users have access to business processes, decision support tools, electronic commerce pathways, Internet/intranet connections and common desktop spreadsheet and word processing applications.
