SELECT Releases New Component Modelling Tool for Java. SELECT Enterprise Product Line Expanded to Target Enterprise-Scale Java Development

May 26, 1998 - SELECT Software Tools, a leading vendor of component-based modelling and management tools, Tuesday announced a new addition to their product line.

Available now, SELECT Enterprise for Java was built with SELECT’s new ‘synchronizer’ technology and is part of the newly released SELECT Enterprise v6 product line.

Earlier this year IBM and SELECT announced that SELECT Enterprise and SELECT Component Manager(TM), both part of SELECT’s product line SELECT Component Factory(TM) (SCF), would be a part of San Francisco project. The San Francisco initiative is a co-operative, worldwide effort of industry leading software companies led by IBM to create a flexible, Java-based foundation for business applications.

San Francisco provides software developers (ISVs) with application foundations to enable them to focus on specialisation for target markets and customers. ISVs can use SELECT Component Manager to easily locate components that meet their needs and understand their functionality and value. Using the component modelling capabilities of SELECT Enterprise, ISVs can view and extend the frameworks and deliver the complete application to their customers.

SELECT also announced that it would build and market a code generator for Java to be used as part of San Francisco. The new code generator being used in SELECT Enterprise for Java will provide the basis for this upcoming product.

SELECT Enterprise for Java includes SELECT’s market leading component modelling tool -- SELECT Enterprise and a code generator for Java. SELECT announced today a new code generation technology which offers benefits beyond those of traditional round-trip engineering.

By providing a single, integrated view of the contents of the class models in SELECT Enterprise and the target language or design environment (C++, Java, Visual Basic(R), Forte(TM) or PowerBuilder(TM)), SELECT’s new ‘synchronizer’ technology allows developers to be selective and use a more iterative development lifecycle. The result is dramatic gains in productivity with more project control and better documentation and understanding of the systems.

SELECT Enterprise for Java is available now for $2,995. Additional versions of product will be available for Symantec Cafe and Microsoft(R) Visual J++. The SELECT Enterprise product line also includes SELECT Enterprise for Visual Basic, SELECT Enterprise for Forte and SELECT Enterprise for PowerBuilder.
