March 30, 1998. SELECT Software Tools , a leading vendor of component-based modelling and management tools, Monday announced the release of a new version of its dedicated product line for users of PeopleSoft application packages.

SELECT Reverser for PeopleTools was developed by SELECT as part of SELECT's and PeopleSoft's strategic partnership which was announced last year. SELECT Reverser for PeopleTools is designed for use with SELECT's data modelling tool, SELECT SE. Together the products help PeopleSoft users upgrade, implement and customise their PeopleSoft application packages more quickly and for less money.

The SELECT Reverser for PeopleTools reads the PeopleSoft meta data and builds complete data models for PeopleSoft 6 applications. Customers can then compare those models to PeopleSoft 7.X applications to determine costs, time and work involved in implementing or upgrading to PeopleSoft 7.X. They can also use the data models to determine how to integrate those PeopleSoft applications with other existing applications and how to customise PeopleSoft applications.

The new version of SELECT Reverser for PeopleTools includes the ability to reverse COBOL and SQR which enables customers to view the data architecture behind the batch processing of the PeopleSoft applications. By better understanding the architecture, users can view and understand the impact of changes made to the batch and COBOL program. Additionally, the relationship naming functionality was improved to allow users to more clearly identify how the relationships were created and to map the models generated to the PeopleSoft architecture.

SELECT and PeopleSoft's strategic relationship also allows PeopleSoft to ship a single user copy of SELECT SE and common data models in SELECT SE repository format with each PeopleSoft application sold. Also part of the relationship is PeopleSoft's decision to make SELECT's products their worldwide modelling tools of choice which gives PeopleSoft worldwide internal usage of SELECT Enterprise, SELECT's component modelling toolset, and SELECT SE, a multi-user data modelling tool. The data models and SELECT SE are provided on CD-ROM along with PeopleSoft 7 and the newly released PeopleSoft 7.5. The new version of the SELECT Reverser for PeopleTools is available with the release of PeopleSoft 7.5.
