Netscape Extends Netscape Application Server Lead With Support of Sun's New Enterprise JavaBeans Standard. Next Major Version of Best-in-Class Application Server to Include Support For Building Enterprise Applications in Java

March 23, 1998 - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NCSP - news) today announced that it is extending the competitive lead of Netscape(R) Application Server software by adding extensive support for Sun's Enterprise JavaBeans(TM) (EJB) 1.0 technology in the next major version. With Enterprise JavaBean support, Netscape Application Server will enable enterprise customers to build and deploy applications rapidly by leveraging the wealth of tools, vendors and independent software vendors who are developing application components and services based on the new Enterprise JavaBeans standard. Enterprise JavaBean support will also enable applications running on Netscape Application Server to interoperate seamlessly with other Enterprise JavaBean-compatible software and services, preventing disparate islands of non-cooperative applications from emerging in next-generation Internet-based business solutions.

Netscape Application Server already contains significant features and architecture that meet many of the fundamental requirements of the new Enterprise JavaBeans specification. For example, the product features a highly-componentised application model and a high-performance runtime model. In addition, the Netscape Application Server team has been working closely with Sun to develop and design the Enterprise JavaBean specification. As a result, Netscape Application Server will provide advanced Enterprise JavaBean-based functionality for improved scalability, reliability, transaction integrity and application development and management.

Netscape Application Server, the first product to be delivered as a result of Netscape's recent acquisition of KIVA Software, is the industry's fastest, most scalable Internet application server for deploying business-critical applications on the Internet and Extranets. Netscape Application Server 2.0 enables Global 2000 companies to deploy business-critical Internet and Extranet applications that reach beyond the company Intranet to include partners, customers and suppliers in business processes.
