ICL Announces Java-Based Object Request Broker With Next-Generation Portable Object Adapter. No-Charge Development Kit Sets New Pricing Standard March 23, 1998 - ICL announced today two Java versions of its award-winning DAIS(R) object request broker (ORB). With DAIS J2 and DAIS J3, ICL is the first vendor to offer second-generation Java ORBs that use Portable Object Adapter (POA) technology, which will be included in the forthcoming update to the Object Management Group's CORBA specification. ICL also announced that DAIS J2 will be offered at no charge to developers, making it the first commercial strength object request broker to be available at no cost for developing distributed applications. The fully functional DAIS J2 toolkit, which enables users to develop 100% pure Java client and server applications using standard CORBA technology, will be available at no cost later this month. DAIS J3 will enable CORBA-based Java applications to exploit the enterprise-strength CORBA Security and Transaction services available with the full DAIS product set.
