Tuesday 23rd October 2001 Microsoft Moves to Deliver on .NET
| ANALYST COMMENT: Microsoft are clearly now moving beyond the visionary stage and delivering real product. Traditionally the PDC is Microsoft's vehicle to roll out its developer products to its early adopting ISV customers, to ensure that the products are available when the platform is generally available.
This time around however the messages are very different to normal. Microsoft are going public on their aggressive strategy to deliver a service based environment which includes in addition to the platform and the tools, the services. And the ISV's are being exhorted to deliver immaginative service based solutions which drive the adoption of the platform and the array of devices that will be delivered this year, including the Tablet PC which is now slated to ship mid 2002.
We will be reporting in full on the Microsoft position in the November edition of INTERACT. | A the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC) 2001, Bill Gates announced a slew of major deliverables for third-party software developers and highlighted surging developer and partner support for the .NET Platform.
Gates heralded significant progress made toward delivering on Microsoft's comprehensive strategy for XML Web services with the .NET Platform. Specifically, he announced the delivery of key .NET technologies, including the following:
